LOGAR (SW): Hundreds of children have been working on the streets, and in the markets in a number of districts in Logar province due to poverty and inevitable pressure of their families.
These children have been working as forced laborers to provide for their families’ expenses.
Khalilullah, one of these children, told Salam Watandar that poverty and economic constraints have forced him to work. According to him, the government has not done anything to create education opportunities and appropriate work opportunities for such children.
Shah Mohammad Walizoy, head of the Directorate of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled people in Logar, told Salam Watandar that the number of child laborers has increased in Logar due to poverty and economic conditions of their families.
Faizullah Zaki, the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD), told Salam Watandar that more than one million children have been working as forced laborers across the country. Minister Zaki added that the government has plans in place to solve this problem and protect these children.
Millions of afghanis have been spent by different organizations to improve the living conditions of children in Afghanistan since 2001, however, millions of children have been working as forced laborers, and in some cases, they have been victims of rape, human trafficking, and exploitation by smugglers.
