Hundreds of Afghan traders face persecution in Pakistan

KABUL/ QUEETA (SW): Based on the reports by the newspapers in Pakistan, the country has warned hundreds of Afghan businessmen to leave the country and sell off their assets within six months’ time.

Razaq Barq, a freelance journalist in Queeta, told Salam Watandar that these businessmen have invested millions in various areas in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan’s government has sent the list of these businessmen to the media outlets in Pakistan and has announced that these Afghans should collect their assets and leave the country as soon as possible.

Pakistani officials have claimed that the Afghan businessmen are accused of counterfeiting documents and obtaining identity cards for them to run their businesses. Barq added that currently the fate of these Afghan businessmen is unclear.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), has confirmed the news, and said that 1200 Afghan businessmen are faced with serious challenges in Pakistan. Siamuddin Pesserly, spokesman for the ACCI, said that they would find a solution to the problems in cooperation with Pakistan’s Chambers of Commerce and Industries.

Shekib Mustaghni, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in this regard that they have spoken with the Afghan Embassy officials in Islamabad, and they would continue to monitor the situation and see how it would shape up.
