KABUL (SW): Humayoun Humayoun has won the election for the seat of deputy speaker at the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) here on Sunday.

The house voted for the posts of first and second deputy speakers and secretary of the WJ. Nazeer Ahmad Ahmadzai and Humayoun Humayoun were candidates for the slot of the first deputy speaker. Humayoun emerged victorious with 110 votes.

Speaking on the occasion, he charged the Arg (Presidential Palace), the National Security Council, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and ‘other officials’ for trying to hinder his election to the post. He went on to charge the executive organ of the state for interfering in the parliament’s affairs.

Nazeer Ahmadzai said on the occasion that he is not a Taliban, al-Qaeeda or Daesh, but an Afghan backing the present system. There have been reports the WJ has divided in two groups, one backing the government led by Nazeer Ahmadzai, and another one opposing the government led by Humayoun Humayoun.

The house would vote for the seats of second deputy speaker and secretary of the house as none of the candidates won the minimum votes required for the slots today.
