KABUL (SW): In line with the International Day of Campaign against Human Trafficking, it was noted that the issue is on the rise in Afghanistan.
Human trafficking is a global challenge, and July 30 is marked as the International Day of Campaign against Human Trafficking. This is the first time that this day was celebrated by the Institute for Fast Relief and Development (FRD) in Kabul.
Mohammad Shoeb Naseeri, the head of FRD said that a report released by the US Department of State suggested that human trafficking has been on the rise in Afghanistan. He added that the report puts Afghanistan in the second tier of human trafficking countries. He further said that based on the annual report released by the US, one human falls victim to trafficker every 30 seconds in the world.
FRD released a statement on the occasion urging upon the government to sign an agreement with neighboring countries to curb human trafficking. The statement said that the awareness programs could also help educate youth about this menace.
Afghanistan stood in the second tier of human trafficking countries in the world between 2010 to 2013 yet it remains in the same spot after years of relative stability, and it is not clear whether the government would do something to reduce human trafficking in the coming days and months.
