KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) noted on Sunday that an unprecedented cache of narcotics with market value of half a million dollars has been confiscated.
Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, deputy minister for counter narcotic at the MoI informed journalists here about the discovery of the ‘largest consignment of narcotics’ in the last 13 years. He said the drug caches were discovered during operations in southeast and southwest of the country. ‘Discovery and seizure of drugs have increased by 90 percent’ added Ahmadi.
The deputy minister said that in a recent operation in Ahmad Abad area of Paktia, at least 44 drug factories were destroyed and 191.2 tons of narcotics destroyed.
A joint report by Ministry of Counter Narcotics and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) has indicated 43 percent increase in opium production in Afghanistan.
