KABUL (SW) – The High Peace Council has hinted the forthcoming consultative grand council ‘Loya Jirga’ would be delayed.
The HPC Secretary, Mohammad Umer Daudzai, told a moot in connection with the ‘Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process’ that the delay might be for two weeks or a month.
It was set the ‘Loya Jirga’ would be held in mid-March for three days with up to 2000 delegates from across the country to discuss contours of proposed peace process with the Taliban.
Meanwhile, Mawlawi Qalamuddin, a former Taliban official and head of the Harkat Inqelab Islami, said on Wednesday President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani aims to secure second term with this ‘rigged’ Loya Jirga. In a gathering here on Wednesday, a number of former Jehadi leaders and political figures called for an end to night raids and security operations causing civilian casualties.
They dubbed these moves counter-productive to the peace process.
