Hezb-i-Islami members prevent teachers from teaching in Takhar

TALOGAN (SW): A number of school educators of Chah Aab district of Takhar say that Bashir Qanit, a Hebz-i-Islami commander’s armed loyalists, are preventing teachers from going to schools in Samti area of the district.

Tayib, a teacher at the Ahmad Khan School, says, the educators have not been able to go to school since a month due to the fear of armed men loyalists to Bashir Qanit.

The teachers say that loyalists to Bashir Qanit have warned 4 school’s teachers in Samti area not to go to school without permission letter from the local commander.

The principal of one of the schools who wished to remain anonymous, says Mahmoud, a gunman affiliated with Bashir Qanit, have been preventing teachers from going to school since several days.

But, Sanat Timor, the provincial governor’s spokesman, says that the local government has not received reports on the matter yet.

Salam Watandar wished to have Bashir Qanit’s views on the matter, but to no avail.

Earlier, Hamid Azizi, the spokesman for Hezb-i Islami, told the media that Bashir Qanit was "the most influential commander" of the party in Takhar and if other groups "tried to defame" Qanit, the Islamic Party "strongly supports him". But the spokesman he does not take on the personal issues of Bashir Qanit.

On the other hand, Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, the provincial police chief, says the Taliban ordered the residents of the Yangi Qala district, on Tuesday night not to allow their daughters to be educated higher than the sixth grade.

The Taliban now control more than 90 per cent of Dar Qad district and parts of the Yangi Qala district in Takhar province. Salam Watandar wanted to have Taliban spokesman's views on the matter, but to no avail.
