KANDAHAR CITY (SW): At least six historic sites in Kandahar province are faced with destruction yet the concerned government office remains idle.
Officials at the provincial directorate for Information and Culture are blaming the Ministry of Information and Culture for not taking the matter seriously. Mohammad Qais Peer Ali, the director for historical heritage at the directorate of Information and Culture said in this regard that they have approached the Ministry on numerous occasions but to no avail.
Fearing the ultimate destruction of the historic sites in the province, Peer Ali added that the sites facing the imminent threat include the Narang House, Shrine of the Malalai Maiwandi, Shrine of the Madam Zarghona, the Mo-e-Mubarak Mosque and some other historic places.
These sites have behind them hundreds of years of history but are not secured properly against the man-caused and natural destruction. The provincial directorate for Information and Culture is also urging individual philanthropists and organization to help restore these heritage sites.
