HERAT CITY (SW) A number of youngsters and local officials waved a 100-meter long Afghanistan-India joint flag in the heart of the city to thank the friendly country for its generous support.
Last month, the landmark Salma Dam project entered final stage thanks to India’s commitment. The joint flag was later gifted to the Indian Consulate in Herat city.
“We greatly appreciate the generous assistance by the Indian government and Indian people”, a slogan on the banners they carried said.
Mohammad Asif Rahimi, Herat Governor, who accompanied the youths, said that the Afghan people would do their best to maintain good relation with India. He asked other countries in the region to follow and lay foundation for a more friendly and prosperous Asia.
Amit Kumar Mishra, the Indian Counsel General termed Salma Dam as the hallmark of Indo-Afghan friendship. Kumar said that the dame would start producing electricity in mid-2016. He said that India would continue supporting Afghanistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Azim Kabarzany, a member of Herat Provincial Council said that Indian support and assistances would give hope to the Afghans.
