Herat Residents accuses Breshna of overcharging them

30/11/2017

HERAT (SW): Subscribers paid 10 afghani for paper/billing and 15 afghani for bank charges, each time they paid their electricity bills. With 252,000 subscribers in the city of Herat, 6.3 million AFN is paid to Breshna Sherkat only for the paper cost, billing fees, and bank charges, in each billing cycle.

Recently, Herat residents accused the electricity provider company “Breshna Sherkat” of overcharging them, saying every paper printing costs 0.5 afghani, but Breshna collects 10 afghanis instead from its subscribers, each billing cycle.

Toryalai Tahiri, deputy head of the Herat Provincial Council, also criticized the bureaucracy and corruption in the Breshna administration, and said that millions of afghanis are collected by Breshna each month in this way from residents of Herat.

Jilani Farhad, spokesperson for the Governor of Herat also confirmed the existence of this issue and informed that the efforts are underway to resolve it.

Wahid Kamrani, the head of Breshna in Herat, however, said that the money that the people paid did not go into corruption. According to him, receiving this amount of money from subscribers is part of their contracts with them, and printing and delivery of electicity bills (in paper) to provinces cost them that much.
