Herat hosts first international conference on TAPI

HERAT CITY (SW): Western province Herat hosted the first conference on TAPI at Amanullah Khan’s Hall on Monday which was attended by officials from Turkmenistan, India, Pakistan and UNAMA officials.

Wafa Hajiov, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, while speaking at the conference said that TAPI is one of the largest projects at the region level, which will lead to bring about peace, prosperity and security for all the member countries, particularly Afghanistan. He went on to say that by launching this project, Afghanistan could benefit $ 1 billion each year.

‘Turkmenistan will finalize all relevant matters related to TAPI both in terms of finance and security’, said the deputy minister of Turkmenistan. He also urged Afghan authorities including people to pay serious attention to this project. He pointed out that ensuring peace for implementation of the project is crucial.

Meanwhile, Nasir Ahmad Andesha, Deputy Foreign Minister, said on the occasion that TAPI is a major project.

He pointed out that TAPI has been proposed based on the energy requirements of India and Pakistan.

He added that the project would help resolve energy crisis and lead to unity among member countries. Andesha said that TAPI would be effective for commerce among regional country as well.

He said that National Unity Government will not spare any effort in ensuring the success of TAPI.

On the other hand, Abdul Qodus Hamidi, Deputy Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan, deemed the TAPI as economic corridor for Afghanistan and said that the project would be inaugurated in Herat.

He added that although all Afghans would benefit from this project but it would be more beneficial for residents where the project is implemented.
