LASHKARGAH (SW): A security source in southern Helmand province has told Salam Watandar that the restive Khanashin district has fallen to the Taliban.
The well placed source at the provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS) has said that the militants have killed 11 Afghan Border Police (ABP) men and nine more have been wounded. Allah Noor Khan, ABP’s Commander in Khanashin has acknowledged that a check post was attacked by the Taliban last night.
He however, confirmed the death of only one ABP men in this assault. Commander Khan stated that the fighting between the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the Taliban are still underway in the area.
Umer Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor has said in this regard that the ANSF has the upper hand and the area is under the government control. He rejected the claims made by the Taliban about the fall of the district.
Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, spokesman for the Taliban, has said in a message that they have overrun the district after killing a number of ANSF men.
