LASHKARGAH (SW) – Hundreds of Helmand residents took to the streets on Sunday against the alleged corruption in a power supply project here.
The protesters claimed the rampant corruption has taken place in the $ 45 million project supplying electricity via Helmand’s Sangin district to neighboring Kandahar province. They asserted the power utility workers linked the power supply lines multiple times, but they keep falling apart due to poor quality.
They added the project has been handed over to the firm named Assess.
The agitators warned to continue with the protest if their demands for review of the project are not heard.
Mohammad Yasin Khan, governor of the province, has acknowledged that the cable used for power supply is of poor quality. He said the power supply has been resumed through old cables, and the issue has been shared with the relevant officials in Kabul.
Salam Watandar wished to have the view of Assess, but to no avail.
