LASHKARGAH (SW): Residents in southern province Helmand province on Monday commemorated a number of staffers at the provincial judicial department for their uprightness amid rampant corruption across the country.
Helmand residents said that despite the fact that Helmand is considered as one of the most corrupt provinces in the country, there still exist a number of hardworking and honest individuals who should be appreciated for putting in tremendous efforts in carrying out their jobs.
A number of parliamentarians, religious scholars, hundreds of youngsters, members of civil society, provincial council members and a number of former Jihadi commanders participated in the gathering to commemorate the committed individuals.
They urged upon uprooting corruption from the government offices. They also praised head of appellate court that has reportedly turned the courts into one of the corruption-free bodies in the province.
Fazel Sultan Safi, Head of the Court, said that he has recently sacked four prosecutors who were involved in corruption and have replaced them with the committed ones.
According to the residents, ever since Safi has become the head of the appellate court, corruption has significantly diminished, and the cases are fairly considered and processed as soon as they are referred to the court. Although, government officials has time and again pledged to curb the corruption but based on the recent reports, Afghanistan remains one of the most three corrupt countries in the world.
