LASHKARGAH (SW): Members of the Helmand civil society movement for ceasefire in the country on Saturday left for Kabul to spread the message of peace.
Iqbal Khyber, a member of the movement, informed the Taliban were urged to shun violence via a five-point resolution issued last week, but the rebels have not responded positively yet.
The movement has called for ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, specification of contact details among warring sides for peace talks, practical steps towards establishing an inclusive national system in line with the Islamic principles and timetable for the exit of foreign troops.
Iqbal informed the movement would spread its plans of touring the whole country if their demands are not met during the trip to Kabul.
Zalmay, another Helmandi activist, informed the peoples’ support is crucial for strengthening the civil society movement for ceasefire in the country.
It is worth noticing, the Helmand’s civil society movement for ceasefire in the country emerged three months ago following a suicide blast outside a sports facility in the provincial capital Lashkargah killing up to 20 people. The relatives of those killed or wounded due to the rages of war in Helmand have also joined the Helmand’s civil society movement for ceasefire in the country.
