LASHKARGAH (SW): After reclaiming restive Musa Qala district from the Taliban, Governor of the southern Helmand province vowed on Sunday each and every corner of the province would be secured.
Mirza Khan Rahimi, the governor told journalists that reports relating to the fall of Musa Qala were not so accurate. He claimed government forces strategically vacated only few parts of the district that have been swiftly reclaimed now.
The Governor said tens of government forces lost lives while hundred of armed rebels were killed in Musa Qala. Clean-up operation continues, he added. A parallel operation has also been launched in the neighboring Khanashin district, the official said.
Mirza Khan mentioned that high ranking have visited the restive district to have a firsthand impression of affairs.
“More than 300 armed rebels have been killed, we have inflicted heavy blow on them without the help of ISAF forces, last night the Afghan Air Force targeted militant’s hideouts and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces have been deployed for the operation”, he stated.
Claiming that a number of foreign militants are fighting alongside the Taliban, the governor said 33 members of the government forces have lost lives in Musa Qala. According to local sources, some 2000 families have left Musa Qala due to the fighting.
