KABUL (SW): Local officials in southern Helmand province claimed to have recaptured the security check posts from the Taliban in Grishk district that came under attack over the night.
Group of Taliban stormed these check posts last night leaving at least six Afghan National Police (ANP) men dead and wounding 11 more. The security officials claimed that they have rebuffed the attack and have reclaimed the posts.
A security source who did not wish to be named claimed that the offensives have claimed the lives of 16 ANP men.
Mohammad Gul, a native in Grishk district told Salam Watandar that at least 50 Taliban militants stormed the check posts. He believed that the rebels have also taken away a number of ANP men with them.
The Taliban have also attacked a garrison responsible for patrolling on the Kandahar-Helmand highway.
The highway has since been closed for traffic. According to the commuters, fighting was still underway.
We tried to obtain the views of the Helmand police department but to no avail.
