KABUL (SW): Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of the Hezb-e-Islami party, made it clear on Saturday he is the founder and remains chief of this party.
Addressing a press conference at his office in Kabul, he said the party and its values are not ‘transferable’ to anyone else. He also clarified that he has not proposed handing over some provinces to the Taliban for peace talks. Hekmatyar said he has only proposed establishing ‘safe zones’ for the Taliban in the country.
The HI leader also stressed upon holding timely and transparent parliamentary and district council elections. He said constituencies should be chalked in a way that paves way for all eligible citizens to vote.
This comes as his long-time party member, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, has noted that the Hezb-e-Islami is registered at the Ministry of Justice under his name, and if Hekmatyar wishes he can register a separate party for him.
