KHOST CITY (SW): Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, chief of the Hezb-I-Islami party, has called for sufficient share in government and development projects for the residents of ‘Greater Paktia’ region.
Addressing thousands of his supporters in Khost city on Sunday, he said the region has been discriminated in comparison to much smaller provinces such as Panjshir, Bamyan and Daikundi. He went on to say that some people have created ‘islands of power’ and are holding on to higher offices.
Hekmatyar also charged the foreign forces for targeting the whole of Zadran tribe on the pretext of Sirajuddin Haqqani, leader of the Haqqani terrorist network, who hails from the same tribe.
On forthcoming parliamentary elections, Hekmatyar stressed past should be buried, and free, fair and transparent elections should be held without which ‘dictatorship’ would prevail. The HI chief vowed to help build an-Islamic University in Khost.
