KABUL (SW) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, presidential candidate for the Islamic Justice and Peace team, called for a re-election here on Sunday.
Addressing a presser, Hekmatyar said that the only way to salvage the country was to hold fair and transparent polls. He demanded an interim government should be established only to hold the polls.
Hekmatyar stressed that elections under a government lead by a presidential candidate cannot be free of corruption. The Islamic Justice and Peace team leader insisted no individual or group has the right to use government resources in the elections because it calls into question the transparency of the process.
Members of the Stability and Partnership electoral team led by Abdullah Abdullah has also called for a meeting of the electoral commission and the international community representatives to avert a crisis. Abdullah wrote on his official Facebook page that members of his team are protecting the people's votes, and will not allow anyone to cheat.
