BAMIYAN CITY (SW): Heavy snow storm has left dozens of passengers stranded in the Qanaq Kotal area between Bamiyan and Daikundi provinces.

Up to seven busses carrying passengers, including women and children, are stranded in the snow since early morning. Khuda Dad, a passenger told Salam Watandar on mobile phone that they have been stranded for hours and there was no help in sight. He feared that if situation persisted the minor onboard these busses might lose lives. He complaint that none of the provincial governments came for their rescue.

Meanwhile, Khudadad Seerat, director for public works in Daikundi province, told Salam Watandar that they lack the resources and manpower to resolve this crisis. He added that snow and rain across the province has crippled the services’ delivery. Acknowledging the issues faced by the people, the provincial director for public works blamed shortage of resources for the appalling ordeal of the passengers.

On the other hand, Abdul Rahman Ahmadi, spokesman for the governor of Bamiyan province, said that the Qanat Kotal does not fall in the province’s jurisdiction.

It is worth noticing that despite being a major road link between the two provinces, this mountainous pass has been in bad shape for many years now.
