KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health on Monday warned a human catastrophe would emerge if measures suggest are not implemented to tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.
Waheedullah Mayar, the ministry spokesman, told a press conference here that if the suggestions for social distancing and other measures are not implemented then situation would go out of hands. He said the suggestions, including locking down frontline province Herat, are based on ground realities and technical assessments.
With 14 additional cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in Afghanistan- almost all linked to neighborin Iran, have reached to 40.
President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani on Monday chaired a high level meeting through video conference with officials in Herat on measures to address the threat of spillover impacts. According to the presidency, he directed local officials to be extra vigilant in the wake of the emerging crisis.
For the moment, the complete lockdown of the province has not be ordered.
