GHAZNI (SW) – A mortar shell hit a public health facility in the Gelan district of Ghazni province killing at least one staff member, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
Zaher Shah Nekmal, head of the directorate of public health, told Salam Watandar the incident took place last night. He said initial reports suggest the health center was hit during a security operation in the area.

In a statement issued by the Taliban, foreign troops have been blamed for the attack and killing of hospital worker, Sidiqullah. The Taliban also claimed a number of residential homes were also destroyed in this incident.
Meanwhile, a member of the provincial council, Naseer Ahmad Faqiri, has claimed at least eight security forces of the NDS also got killed in this while.
Spokesman for the provincial administration, Arif Noori, has said in this regard that ‘by mistake’ a check post of the Afghan Local Police came under fire on the main Jaghori – Gelan highway in which eight security forces got killed and four more got injured.
