KABUL (SW): Matters related to the Afghan peace process has been discussed with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, Iranian President Hasssan Rouhani has been quoted saying by Pakistan’s Daily Times.
It adds that the two have discussed the need to hold tri-party regional meeting consisting of representatives from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan for the matter.
Commenting on it, Aminuddin Muzafari, spokesman for the High Council for Peace (HCP) said that Afghanistan welcomes positive and constructive efforts for peace in the country. A day earlier, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced that government is thinking about consulting the U.S and China on the peace process after Islamabad failed to deliver on its promises to bring the Taliban to the peace talks tables. Speaking at a regional conference on peace strategies, deputy minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai said peace remains a top priority.
Karzai stressed upon the need for sincere efforts from regional countries, particularly Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Ismaeel Yoon, expert on political affairs, told Salam Watandar that the role of neighboring countries like Iran and Pakistan remains crucial in bringing peace to Afghanistan. He however, warned that the Afghan government should know what these countries are actually aiming at. He went on to say that Iran and Pakistan are party to the conflict in Afghanistan.
Saleh Mohammad Saleh, a member of the lower house “Wolesi Jirga”, said in this regard that the two countries can actually help a lot. He said that sincere efforts from Tehran and Islamabad can ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
