KABUL (SW): Afghanistan Civil Society Organisation Network for Peace (ACSONP) has called for the need to have a uniformed policy towards peace talks with the Taliban.
Leaders of this civil society group lamented the ‘contradictory’ stance of the High Council for Peace (HCP) in this regard. Lately, Pir Syed Ahmad Gillani, head of the HCP remarked that fighting against the Taliban is ‘not just’. These comments received wide scale condemnation.
Abdul Rahman Nang, ACSNOP representative told journalist in Kabul on Tuesday that such comments harm the efforts for peace in the country. He said that the contradictory remarks of the HCP leaders leave negative marks on the peace talks with the Taliban. Nang stressed that the women rights and role of civil society should not be compromised at any cost.
Humaira Saqib, head of the ACSNOP, said on the occasion that lack of a national action plan for peace was seriously missing. She noted that a number of factors including wage approach by the government leaders have led to the stalemate in peace process.
President Mohammd Ashraf Ghani has made it clear time and again that the gains made in the recent years would not be compromised for the sake of talks. Ghani has also vowed to use force against those threatening stability of the country and undermining the Constitution.
