KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s national football player Hameedullah Karimi has won the hearts of Indian premier football club Delhi United managers.
According to the Afghanistan Football Federation, Karimi has been acquired by the Indian club, and hence has become the only foreign player to join the Delhi United F.C. In domestic football, Karimi scored 9 goals in 5 games for his club the Toofaan Harirod F.C. in 2012 Afghan Premier League (APL), and helped his club win the inaugural APL. In the 2013 Afghan Premier League, Karimi could not lead Toofaan Harirod F.C. to win another title as his club was eliminated by Shaheen Asmayee F.C.
The 26-year-old has twice been crowned as best national player. Karimi was called up for Afghanistan's national squad in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers, but he did not play in a single game. Besides him, former captain Islamudin Amiri is another Afghan footballer that is playing the Indian domestic league for the Chennai F.C.
Currently, the Delhi United F.C. is placed second in the Indian domestic league with 9 points. It has managed to secure a place in the final round of the league.
