Haji Sultan donates blood 157th time

BAGHLAN(SW): An old man from Baghlan province said that he donated blood for injured security forces’ personnel for 156 times and is currently ready to donate more in the recent fighting in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.

According to him, he donated 500 cc of blood each time. He is called Haji Sultan Mohammad and is one of Baghlan’s tribal elders. He said that people would stand by the security forces under any circumstances and would support them. He said that he has come with hundreds of residents from Baghlan to the public hospital to donate blood for the injured soldiers and policemen.

“I am ready to donate a hundred more times, if needed.” He said, adding that he takes pride when his blood donation helps those in need.

Dr. Habibullah Formuli, head of the blood bank here said that blood donation is just like saving someone’s life under current harsh situation. He added if the donation drive continues it will boost security forces’ morale.

He said that Baghlan Health Department called for blood donation, which was welcomed by the residents.

It is said that hundreds were injured due to intensified fighting in Kunduz and a number of patients from Doctors Without Borders’s hospital in Kunduz have also been shifted to Baghlan. According to health officials in Baghlan, so far more than 80 injured security personnel have been treated.

Although, there is no exact number of casualties reported but it is said that a large number of civilians have been killed in the recent fighting.

Meanwhile, Red Crescent Society in Baghlan, said that during four months of fighting between security forces and the Taliban, 50 civilians were killed and more than 110 were injured.

They claim that 300 houses were destroyed. Dr. Hamid Niazi, Head of Red Crescent in Baghlan, told Salamwatandar in an exclusive interview that Taliban are the main responsible for civilians’ death in Baghlan.

He asked the warring sides not to target civilians.
