HERAT CITY (SW): Residents in the western Herat province held protest demonstrations against a the killing of two civilians who were reportedly killed by the bodyguards of Mawlawi Khudadad Saleh, Head of Religious Council in western Afghanistan.
Initial reports suggest Saleh’s guards opened fire at a car on a main street last evening.
Ehsanullah Hayat, spokesman for the provincial governor said 5 bodyguards and 4 policemen have been arrested in connection with this incident. He added the incident occurred at around 8 o’clock last night when a corolla car collided with the security convoy of Mawlawi Saleh.
Muhammad RafiqShirzai, spokesman for a local hospital in the capital Herat city confirmed the deaths.
The provincial government has vowed to thoroughly probe the incident.
