TAKHAR (SW): The shoemaking industry has grown significantly in the Taloqan city of Takhar province.
The number of shoemaking workshops are on the rise. The locally made leather shoes have won the hearts of the youth.
Habibullah Mahboob, the head of local traders, told Salam Watandar lack of a special market for domestic products has forced businessmen to operate with limitations. According to him, the footwear industry is getting popular, and is growing rapidly.
He added most of the shoemaking workshops are located on the outskirts of Taloqan city, and not having a fixed location is their biggest problem. Takhar residents also said that they have been purchasing locally produced shoes that have good quality.
Javid, a resident of Taloqan, said the shoes produced locally are of good quality and affordable prices, and most young people have been buying these shoes.
Sayed Inam, another resident of Taloqan, said that the demand for good quality shoes is high in the market, and these shoes are selling for around AFN 2000 nowadays. According to him, most young people have been purchasing these shoes directly from the shoemaking workshops at half the price.
Sayed Shakir, one of the shoemakers, said their production has increased, but due to the lack of specific location for business, they have been producing shoes in their homes. According to Shakir, he produces 24 pairs of shoes daily.
The shoemakers informed that the leather is imported from Pakistan, but the soles for these shoes are made in Taloqan city.
