KABUL (SW): A grim sadness has gripped the Afghan capital Kabul as dead bodies of seven members of a family, who were drowned near Greece while crossing into Europe to seek asylum, were buried here on Saturday.
This family left Afghanistan dreaming for a better future in Europe some two weeks ago. The dead included two men, two children and three women. Their relatives said that they still do not know about the rest of their family members who were also with them.
Father of the unfortunate family, who buried the dead bodies of his sons, grandsons and the women of the family, said that the incident has broken his heart to pieces.
He said that his son was a tailor and he was working 24 hours, but the income was not enough so he embarked on this risky journey to Europe. He said, he had repeatedly urged them not to leave but the children insisted to leave Afghanistan for abroad.
Gen. Haq Nawaz Haqyar, Commander of Border Police in Kabul told Salam Watandar that this is the first time that the dead bodies of Afghan asylum seekers returned to the country to be buried.
He said that there is also some data on the transfer of seven more dead bodies, but the time has not been determined.
According to the reports, Afghan refugees make up the second largest group of applicants after Syrian immigrants in Europe, especially in Germany.
It is worth mentioning that lack of security, poverty, unemployment have compelled many to seek better life by taking the risk of their life.
