LASHKARGAH (SW): Mirza Khan Rahimi, resigned from his position as the governor of southern Helmand province on Tuesday.
He was appointed as the governor nearly 8 months ago. He previously held the capacity for Head of Security in the capital Kabul and central Ghazni province.
His resignation comes amidst unstable security situation in the province where Taliban have managed to capture a number of northern and southern districts.
He confirmed his resignation while talking to Salam Watandar but said that he would share the details of his resignation to the media soon.
A source close to him told Salam Watandar that the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani asked the governor to resign and not travel to the province again.
Government’s high-ranking officials like Yousuf Noorisitan, Chief of Independent Election Commission and Daud Shah Sabah, Minister of Mines and Petroleum have both recently resigned from their related positions this week.
Rumor has it that the government has sacked a number of security commanders and officials in Helmand since the insecurity has increased but this issue has not been formally announced yet.
