PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Governor of Logar blamed land mafia for a deadly attack on the employees of a local appellate court in the province on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, explosive device planted in a bicycle exploded when judge of the appellate court was passing in his car near it in the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam. The blast left a policeman dead and eight civilian, including three local judges wounded.

Haleem Fidayee, Governor of Logar said a number of people associated with the local land mafia are behind the attack. He noted that the group of judges prepared a list of individuals involved in encroaching government land and wished to share the details with the press before being attacked.

“The land mafia has joined hands with the Taliban, and ever since the appellate court issued a ruling against them, they felt the heat and that might have led to this attack on the judges”, he said.

The locals on the other hand have blamed the security forces for failing to curb such repeated acts of violence in Pul-i-Alam. Last month, judges of the local appellate court were attacked in the Porak Bazar area near the provincial capital that led to the death of a prosecutor and also wounded three more prosecutors.
