‘Government supports a peace process that safeguards security forces

KABUL (SW) – Interim minister for the Ministry of Defense, Assadullah Khalid, said on Saturday robust security operations on the bastions of the Taliban have frightened the insurgents.

He said this addressing a gathering to mark the release of some 53 civilians and security forces from the Taliban custody in Zabul province. Khalid said these operations would leave positive impacts in the political arena. The interim minister said the government only backs a peace deal that upholds the dignity of the security forces

Khalid stressed the security forces should not surrender against evil propaganda of the enemy, and instead perform its duties professionally. He stressed the politicians should refrain from interfering in the affairs of the security forces, particularly in the matters related to the army.

According to the interim minister, the recently freed men spent from 10 to 24 months under the Taliban captivity, and faced persecution.

Among those freed by the security forces included 32 soldiers, 8 civilians,8 policemen and 4 members of the Special Forces and one member of the NDS.
