KABUL (SW): Afghanistan Protection and Stability Council (APSC) has urged government to set the date for holding Loya Jirga as soon as possible.
Members of APSC said that if the government wasn’t able to hold Loya Jirga, it could refer to them for solution.
One of the preconditions for establishing Government of National Unity was to hold Loya Jirga after two years as well as changing parliamentary system to that of prime ministerial but currently as the time is already running out, the government has no preparation for holding Loya Jirga.
Massoud Toreshtiwal, Spokesman for APSC, speaking in a session held by APSC, emphasized that the government should keep its promises and be prepared for holding Loya Jirga.
Members of APSC said that the council is not an anti-government body but recommends that the political system should change from parliamentary system to prime ministerial.
Ajmal Sayes, another Spokesman for APSC, said the collapse of the current government would benefit no particular group or person but the status quo can not heal the wounds of the citizens either.
They also urged that parliamentary elections should be held next year in the summer since holding elections in the winter would not be possible considering cold weather and insecurity.
APSC was inaugurated in the capital, Kabul a month ago and is considered as the first opposition party to be established since the Taliban were toppled in 2001.
APSC’s heavyweights and influential members are Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf, Mohammad Ismail Khan, Younos Qanoni, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, Zalmai Rasoul, Sadiq Modabir, Mohammad Omar Daudzai, Besmillah Mohammadi, Abdul Rahim Wardak and Abdul Rauf Ebrahimi.
On the inauguration day, these members said that they prepared long-term programs for the future of political system in the country and would introduce a candidate to the next presidential elections to implement those programs.
