KABUL (SW) – The chief of election commission, Abdul Badi Sayad, has urged the government to provide effective security to the electoral commission offices nationwide.
Addressing a presser here on Monday, chief of the Independent Election Commission said offices of the electoral commissions are under immense security threat all over the country.
This comes as supporters of a number of politicians removed from the list of the candidates for the parliamentary elections lock down IEC office in Kabul.
Sayad said the IEC has paid sacrifices and has worked hard, and it would not tolerate interference and hurdles. He said under such circumstances, the IEC would not be responsible if the electoral process faced serious challenges.
Referring to the protests by candidates removed from the list, he said it is the democratic right of the citizens, but limits, rules and regulations must be respected.
The IEC charged the government for not providing enough security. Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the government, but to no avail.
