Government pushed to appoint IECC secretary

KABUL (SW): Abdul Aziz Aryaey, head of the Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC), has urged the government not to further delay appointment of secretary for this electoral body.

He said this on Sunday while announcing dates for the forthcoming parliamentary and district council elections. The IECC chief said he has shared the names of three proposed candidates for this post with the presidential palace, but no actions have been taken so far.

Gula Jan Bade, head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the forthcoming parliamentary and district council elections would be held on October 10, 2018. He said a number of measures have been taken to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in time.

Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the President, told Salam Watandar that he was not aware about the matters related to the appointment of the secretary for the electoral commission.

According to the IEC, voters’ registration would commence in urban centers followed by districts and villages on 25 April 2018.
