MAIMANA (SW): A commander of local armed militia in Faryab province blamed the government for not cooperating with them in the wake of surging militancy.
Abdul Manan Qateh, commander of the local uprising force, said more than one hundred of his armed men have died while fighting the rebels in the area, but the government has not provided any support to them.
Sibghatullah Sailab, member of the provincial council, said in this regard the government is behaving indifferently towards the men who sacrificed for it.
However, Kareem Yourish, spokesman for the police in the province, rejected these allegations. He said these uprising locals add strength to the security forces, and the government provides monthly support to up to 2500 such armed men in Faryab.
These forces in the north of the country have been pronounced effective in countering the rebels, however, there are many serious allegations against them such as killings of civilians, drug trafficking and extortion.
