KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR) has pronounced the ever rising number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as a major issue at hands.
Amid the arrival of harsh winter, the Ministry has expressed concerns that hundreds of thousands of these IDPs, particularly children are at risk.
Hafiz Miakhel, press advisor at the MoRR told Salam Watandar that for proper assistance of the needy IDPs, the Ministry has signed agreements with international aid agencies as well. He added that more than 1 million individuals of some 92 thousand families have been displaced in 12 provinces, and all of them are in need of food, shelter, medicine and other needs of life.
According to the MoRR press advisor further studies into the issue are underway. He added that the World Food Program has assured assistance for some 760 thousand IDPs.
Nader Farhad, UNHCR spokesperson has informed that this international body will assist 25 thousand displaced families who are repatriating from Europe and neighboring countries this winter. He added that UNHCR will not hesitate from any kind of assistance, but the Afghan government should take fundamental measure for the refugees' repatriation.
