Government fails to reclaim encroached land

KABUL (SW): The government has managed to win court cases for some 9439 jeribs of encroached land but it failed to duplicate this act for some 931 jeribs of encroached land in various provinces.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) announced on Monday that it has processed some 403 cases in the past six months in this regard some of which ended in favor of the government while others against it. Mohammad Arman Riazat, spokesman for the MoJ said that the cases were related to public properties including land, apartments, shops and cash. Out of these cases, he said the government won 131 claims while it lost 14.

He mentioned that the government managed to reclaim 9439 jeribs of encroached land in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Daikundi and Baghlan provinces while it lost court cases for some 931 jeribs of state land.

The MoJ spokesman denied revealing the names of those encroaching upon the state property. He said that as per the set guidelines by the Access to Information Commission, they can not reveal the identities of such people.

The ministry’s spokesman also refrained from saying whether those encroaching upon the public property are government employees or not.
