KABUL (SW): The Afghan government has expressed resolve to safeguard the country’s water resources in line with the international norms and would no more allow a single drop of its water to flow away in vain.
Sayed Zafar Hashimi, deputy presidential spokesman told this to journalists here on Tuesday. He was briefing the press about President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s engagements during his trip to Iran on Monday. He stressed that the government has put unprecedented focus upon water management in Afghanistan.
He noted that the Iranian government did raise some concerns over the Harirod River waters but the Afghan government would decide on this matter in line with the international norms and accepted policies. Hashimi mentioned that the issues faced by the Afghan refugees in Iran were also raised during talks with officials in Tehran.
The deputy presidential spokesman said that Afghanistan’s foreign policy would be based on mutual respect, trust and interests. In regard to Pakistan, he said that ties with this neighbor would be based on ground realities.
About India, Hashimi said that Kabul-New Delhi ties would be further boosted. He informed the journalists that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured President Ghani about providing more military helicopters in the future.
