KABUL (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive officer, has said the government is committed to hold transparent elections using biometric technology.
He said this addressing a ceremony marking the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani here on Friday. Abdullah said he is not candidate for the forthcoming presidential elections, but would decide about it after consultations. He said the National Unity Government should be allowed to complete tenure despite all the criticism.
Foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, president of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, said political parties are determined to take part in the forthcoming elections based on the biometric technology. He said all plans aimed at weakening democracy are actually against the bright future of the country.
On this occasion, Mohammad Mohaqiq, deputy to the CEO, hailed the proposed use of biometric technology in the polls, and added the government should allow the political parties a role in it. Mohaqiq warned the security forces against using force against the Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan workers.
This comes as the Ministry of Interior has warned to take actions against those seeking to close offices of the electoral commissions.
