KABUL (SW): Civil society activists gathered in the capital Kabul on Monday to express grim concerns over the increasing clout of pro-Daesh rebels in eastern Nangarhar province.
Addressing a presser, the activists noted that Jalalabad; the provincial capital of Nangarhar province, has turned into breeding ground for the militants. They charged the government for overlooking the atrocities committed by the rebels in Kot district.
Abdullah Paikar, a civil society activist from Nangarhar said on the occasion that the group is very much active and recruiting militants in Jalalabad City. He added that a number of local families have left the province out of fears and many more have unwillingly consented to obey the will of the rebels.
The speakers charged the government for not being serious to uproot the Daesh from the eastern parts of the country.
Ghafoor Ahmad, another activist criticized the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members representing the militancy-riddled eastern provinces. He noted that the pro-Daesh rebels continue to propagate their ideas of hatred and militancy via their radio and online networks while the government remains idle.
