Government busts rackets issuing fake passports

21/06/2018

KABUL (SW) – A number of rackets issuing fake passports particularly to youth eyeing to embark on illegal migration have been busted, officials informed on Thursday.

Kamal Saadat, deputy minister for the Ministry of Information and Culture, told a moot in connection with the ‘Illegal Migration of Youth’ here that such rackets were luring the youth towards treacherous journies abroad.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Alimi, deputy minister at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates, said a number of plans have been executed by this ministry since 2015 when illegal migration from Afghanistan saw a phenomenal surge. She added Denmark and Norway shared proposals with the MoRR in this regard to control such migration of Afghan youth and children.

It was noted that the EU countries wished to expel up to 80,000 Afghan asylum seekers, but the MoRR managed to convince them not to forcefully repatriate deserving candidates. The MoRR officials said plans are in place to ensure vulnerable asylum seekers such as children, women and girls and elderly are not forcefully expelled.

Statistics suggest up to 300,000 Afghan refugees returned from Iran and Pakistan in the first half of 2018 while 1200 such refugees returned from the EU.
