Government blamed for turning blind eye towards security in Kandahar

KABUL (SW): A number of Mashrnano Jirga (upper house) members criticized the government on Sunday for not paying enough attention towards the latest terrorist attack on the Kandahar airport that claimed a number of lives. 

During the session today, the members said that often during such situations in Kandahar and Helmand, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has shifted his attention towards the Northern provinces instead.

According to the Ministry of Defense, 37 people got killed and 35 more got injured in the attack on Kandahar Airport on 08 December. The Ministry of Defense has added that 11 suicide attacker took part in it. The attack also damaged the airport, nearby houses, a religious study center, shops, schools and many other buildings.

Some residences of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and foreign troops were also damaged.

Taking part in the debate, Rana Tareen, a female member of the house said 35 children got killed in that attack on Kandahar Airport. According to Tareen, it needed to be investigated how Taliban managed to attack airport despite strict security measures. She stressed that the reports about the militants obtaining guns from inside the airport should also be interrogated.

The senators agreed the attack on Kandahar airport should be investigated.
