KABUL (SW) – The Greater National Alliance of Afghanistan on Saturday showed journalists bundles of electoral commission stickers, multiple identity cards of single holders and other documents.
Asserting their claims about alleged fraudulent elections, Humayon Humayon, member of the GNAA, said the district and parliamentary elections are need of the time, however, the alleged pre-poll rigging by the government has undermined the legitimacy of the whole process.
He said the electoral commission employees have ‘sold’ the registration stickers, and have even registered multiple identity cards of a single holder, and in some cases of the deceased.
Ahmad Zia Masoud, another member of the GNAA, stressed the government and the electoral commission must strive to ensure transparent elections. The alliance threatened to extend the agitation drive if the government failed to comply with their demands in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Independent Election Commission spokesman, Syed Hafeezullah Hashimi, has clarified the registration stickers and fake identity cards have been circulated by politicians, not the IEC employees.
