GHAZNI CITY (SW): A girls high school in the vicinity of Ghazni city was blown up in the early hours on Monday.

Residents of Qara Baghi village in Ghazni city told Salam Watandar that the Al-Beruni school building was a rented house. The school had at least 1 thousand female students enrolled. A resident on conditions of anonymity said the administrative office and some class rooms of the school are completely damaged following the blast.

Mohammad Abed Abed, provincial director of education, confirming the incident said no insurgent group has claimed the responsibility yet. “Police has started investigation into the incident”, added Abed. The Qara-Baghi village in Ghazni is one of the insecure areas in the province. Despite the fact that the village is largely under the Taliban control, the insurgents have not taken responsibility for blowing the school up.

Rahmatullah Hasahr, chief of the district, told Salam Watandar that the looting has inflicted financial losses worth some 500 thousand afghanis.
