FARAH CITY (SW) – Officials in Farah province said on Monday unknown armed men attacked a girls’ school on the outskirts of Farah city with explosives.
Mohammad Azimi, director education in the province, told Salam Watandar the insurgents attacked the Shaheed Banafsha School for Girls in the Teyusak area forcing the guards to flee. He said the attackers blew up many parts of the school with explosives.
The head of education directorate said this incident has deprived at least 1000 girls of education. He added it is not known yet who was behind this incident.
Meanwhile, deputy chairman for the provincial council, Shah Mehmood Naimi, has said the Taliban had asked the locals to close down this school for girls in the Teyusak area. He added the Taliban later allowed the school to function after mediation with the elders.
