GHOR (SW): Health officials in Ghor have expressed grim concerns over lack of pediatricians in the province leaving many children at risk.
Juma Gul Yaqubi, head of the Ghor Public Hospital, told Salam Watandar that more than 100 children are hospitalized, but there is not a single pediatrician in the province.
The locals are equally frustrated with the situation, saying that they are compelled to either travel to other provinces or abroad for specialized treatment of children. Abdul Ghafoor and Taimor Shah, two such residents of Ghor, said that they have no choice but to sell their property in a bid to arrange for treatment of their children abroad. They said many children lost their lives when their families could not arrange the money for their treatment.
Abdul Lateef Rahimi, interim head of the Directorate of Health in Ghor, said in this regard that the issue has been discussed with the Ministry of Public Health, but no actions have been taken so far.
According to local officials, up to 65 children died in the Feroz Koh city alone due to lack of pediatricians.
