GHOR (SW) – A number of education-friendly Ghor residents have donated four hundred jeribs of their personal land for the construction of public schools.
The directorate of education in Ghor has hailed this generosity of the local community. It has hoped this move would address the issue of land shortage for schools in the province.
Ahmad Sabir Noori, head of the directorate of education, told Salam Watandar a total of 416 jerib of land has been donated by the Ghor residents for this cause, which would definitely help improve the standards of education here. He added out of 826 public schools in the province, up to 200 lack proper buildings.
When contacted, Abdul Hai Khatibi, provincial governor, said up to 200 public schools would be constructed on this patch of land in the coming five years in line with the Citizens Charter Program.
The local civil society has urged the relevant authorities to take best advantage of this opportunity to promote education. Prior to this, local residents in a number of other provinces took similar steps of providing land for the construction of schools.
According to the directorate of education, the land provided by locals for the construction of schools is worth AFN 47 million.
