GHOR (SW) – Ghor residents ended their protest after assurances from the presidency for development of an 80 km highway and 5 megawatt solar power project here.

Assadullah Falah, senior adviser to the President, led the delegation in talks with the protesters. He was accompanied by Nasir Ahmad, representative of the power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat who told the protesters that the solar power project would commence this year.

Members of the parliament from Ghor, such as Gul Zaman Naib, urged the protesters to end the agitation drive.

The locals warned to resume protests if their demands are not met. Two local elders, Mohammad Wazeer Durani and Mohammad Sharif Qazizada, said they would close down the public offices if the government failed to stand by its promises in this connection.

Two years ago, Ghor residents protested for over a month over the same issues when a government delegation promised to address their concerns back then, which still remains.
